History of the Salem Sand Club
The Salem Sand Club is a non-profit, family oriented club dedicated to making riding a safe family adventure and keeping Oregon's riding areas open to the public. We are moms, dads, grandmas, & grandpas. We are also businessmen and women. We have dune buggies, four-wheelers, jeeps, motorcycles, and odysseys. The club currently has over 80 members.

Throughout the 1990's, the Oregon sand dunes were slowly being closed to ATV’s, and riders needed to come together to stop our riding areas from disappearing. In answer to this, Mike Gesner started the Salem Sand Club in 1995. The idea behind the club was to give riders a voice and let legislators know that we have a right to the sand dunes.

Over the past seven years, Salem Sand Club has grown to over 50 members. We have been involved in Dunefest, the PGE Festival of Lights Parade, and the Keizer 4th of July Parade. Members have recently completed three projects to raise funds for ATV safety awareness. We hold monthly meetings and have monthly club rides at places like Florence, Coos Bay, and Winchester Bay.

Each year, we hold the Jesse Perkins Memorial Poker Run, which raises money for ATV safety awareness. Also, in response to Jesse’s tragic death, two club members introduced legislation that now makes flags required on motorcycles. Previously, motorcycles were the only vehicles on the dunes not required to have flags.
